Instagram Weekly Picks

Here are some of my fave lingerie Instarams from this week:

1. Agent Provocateur
I love this pyjama top from AP's new collection! The cut out lace makes the top seem barely there and gives it and ultra sexy feel.

This waspie is such a classic design; it would be great to wear over a shirt or a dress keeping it very on trend for this season.

This brand was created by an LCF graduate. The designs are really innovative and fresh and her editorial photos are beautiful! Everyone should definitely check out her page!

4. Gonzales
This bra is from a luxary Spanish brand; their designs include bold, striking lines and oversized rings. Spanish design at its finest!

This LA based brand make the most amazing bodysuits; they have a really distinctive style which utilizes cut outs and straps. Their designs seem to be everywhere at the minute!

Underwear as Outerwear

Over the last few months the trend of underwear as outerwear has become increasingly popular. As I have been going around London and now New York, I have seen lots of stylish people embracing this trend and all doing it in different ways.

This trend doesn't have to be wearing just your bra on a night out, it can be done in a way that is stylish, sexy and classy!

Slip dresses are hugely popular at the minute! They can be worn over a t-shirt with a choker as an ode to the 90's or on their own as a slinky outfit for the evening.

Bras and bra tops are another great way to wear this trend and it can be done in so many ways! Wearing a pretty bra with a blazer or a jacket is a great look but if you aren't comfortable barring all then wearing a longline bra or a sheer top will give you a bit more coverage. And you can't go wrong with showing a cheeky bit of lace through a vest top!

Pyjamas are becoming hugely popular to wear as evening wear. Silk trousers and a button down top look great and are really comfy so its a win win really!

Bodysuits can also be good if you don't want to show a lot of skin; they can be worn with trousers or a skirt or even under a sheer dress.

Wearing a sheer dress over simple underwear can make a dramatic look for daytime or for the evening and it doesn't have to just be black and white!

ASOS Lingerie

ASOS has really upped its game when it comes to lingerie and nightwear. They offer so may different brands at all sorts of price points and their own brand selection is innovative and on trend.

These bodies have some lovely design features; the pink body on the left has multiple rings pilled on top of each other and the caged cup makes the piece a little bit sexier! The cut outs on the black body make it more delicate and breaks up the design. The body on the end also features multiple large rings (I see a trend emerging here!) and the way the straps criss cross over the lays is a nice touch.

These are some of the lingerie sets available on their website. They have really picked up on the strapping trend and have used in in a variety of ways. I think the bra on the left is quite inovative as it has a cut out along the side and an open bridge in the centre. The green set is a bit more simple than others, but the use of a different fabric is refreshing. The two sets on the right are different examples of how they have used caging; one with lace one without.

This is perhaps my favourite set available! I love the grey colour that is not often seen in lingerie and the chunky applique lace is very pretty and shows a transition into future trends.

ASOS really are doing some exciting stuff at the minute, I hope that in the future they expand their sizing ranges so that I can actually buy some of it!

Tisja Damen Design project

The final term at uni is always the best; its sunny, rooftop bars are open and there is only one project to work on. The final project gives you the most design freedom and the time to make it the best project of the year. This term we were tasked with designing ranges that included strapless bras that were functional and innovative. We could pick any brand we wanted to design for as long as our ranges included two strapless pieces.

For my project, I picked the brand Tisja Damen to design for. This brand creates beautiful lingerie made from lace that they source from all around Europe. They think of lingerie as telling a story which is an idea that inspired me in my designs. For each of my ranges I took inspiration from a fairytale.

Debenhams

This term at uni we have been working with Debenhams to design a range of full figure or full busted lingerie. This has been both really exciting and challenging as this is a new area that I had never looked at before. I've had immense fun developing design concepts and creating a new illustration style. Here are the illustrations for my final three ranges:

Mademoiselle Privé

Last week I took sometime out of doing my uni work to visit the massively popular Chanel exhibition. I had been warned by a friend that the queue would take up to an hour but I was undeterred! I was determined to see they exhibition and the queue couldn't be that long right?

I could not have been more wrong! We queued for over an hour and once inside it was massively overcrowded. It was hard to stop and look and things in each room as there was pressure to move on to keep the people flowing.

There was an app which provided most of the information to the exhibition but due to the vast numbers of people this was very slow. When it did work it showed beautiful animations and gave interesting facts about the origins of the brand and Chanel herself.

The clothes were presented beautifully with luminous poles through the centre of garments to show the exquisite details. There was also a video of Karl Lagerfeld talking to the ghost of Coco Chanel which was very interesting to watch (after we had queued for 5 minutes to get into the room!).

All in all the exhibition was great but very poorly organised which created hold ups and build ups of people. On the bright side everyone was given a poster of a beautiful illustration  which now hangs on my wall next to my Louis Vuitton poster.

Uni Project: Coco de Mer

After a year studying contour at London College of Fashion, I have found myself stumbling through our first industry project. This term we are working with Coco de Mer to design a range for nightwear for A/W16. This has been both challenging and exciting as we have never designed or really looked at nightwear on the course so far. I have really enjoyed experimenting with traditional nightwear styles to create something more fitting with the kinky Coco style.

The brand were keen for us to develop an individual concept for our ranges so mine were inspired by Italy, especially Italian architecture and wild flowers.
They picked one of 3 ranges for us to develop and then picked one piece from this range for us to make and present to them. Here is my teddy design inspired by St Mark's Basilica in Venice.
